La Carpio is an informal settlement on the western edge of the city of San José, Costa Rica. This neighborhood has grown from its initial occupation by several families around 25 years ago to having more than 50,000 people today. Approximately half of this population is of Nicaraguan origin and the rest are Costa Ricans and people of other nationalities.
